Bollywood Stars in Legal Trouble Over Vimal Pan Masala Ad
Jaipur's consumer court has issued a shocking legal notice to Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgan, and Tiger Shroff, along with JB Industries, the manufacturer of Vimal Pan Masala. The controversy? A misleading claim that every grain of their product contains saffron, despite its exorbitant price of ₹4 lakh per kg!
The forum has summoned the actors and the company’s chairman to respond by March 19, 2025, raising concerns over false advertising and public health risks.
The Controversy: Saffron or Just a Marketing Gimmick?
Consumer activist Yogendra Singh Badiyal, the petitioner in this case, has called out Vimal Pan Masala for making unbelievable claims. According to him, while the Vimal pouch costs just ₹5, the real price of saffron is around ₹4 lakh per kg.
"Forget adding saffron to pan masala; even its fragrance is beyond affordability at that price!" he said in his complaint.
This misleading marketing strategy, allegedly backed by Bollywood’s biggest faces, raises serious ethical and health concerns.
Public Health at Risk? The Deadly Reality of Pan Masala Consumption
The complaint also exposes the health hazards linked to gutkha and pan masala, which contains tobacco.
Did you guys know?
- According to WHO, oral cancer cases in India are among the highest in the world, with over 75,000 deaths annually due to tobacco-related diseases.
- Countries like Australia and the UK have banned flavored tobacco products, but in India, they are still marketed as "premium" despite their harmful effects.

Why Are Bollywood Celebrities Promoting a Health Hazard?
Many consumers feel betrayed by Bollywood stars who promote these harmful products. Netizens have slammed the actors, questioning why celebrities endorse gutkha but refuse to consume it themselves.
This is not the first time actors have been criticized for misleading advertisements. Remember when Amitabh Bachchan walked away from Kamla Pasand after public outrage? Will others follow suit?
Court’s Verdict: What Happens Next?
The Jaipur consumer forum, chaired by Gyarsilal Meena and Hemlata Agarwal, has asked the actors and JB Industries to justify their claims.
The next hearing is scheduled for March 19, where the court will decide whether:
- The Vimal advertisement should be banned or not
- Celebrities must be held accountable for misleading endorsements or not
- A penalty should be imposed on JB Industries or not.
Public Reaction: "Is Bollywood Selling Us Lies?"
- "If these actors really believed in their product, why don’t they chew Vimal in public?" – asks a Twitter user.
- "First it was fairness creams, now it’s gutkha. Bollywood needs to stop misleading people!" – writes a Reddit user.
- "₹4 lakh/kg saffron in a ₹5 pouch? Even a child can see the lie!" – Facebook comment.
The Final Question: Should Celebrities Be Held Accountable?
With the rise of celebrity-backed misleading advertisements, Indian consumers are demanding stricter regulations. If Bollywood icons continue endorsing harmful products, should they face legal consequences?
What do you think? Should stars be more responsible for their endorsements?
